blog-ratings ~

One blog I found was "Anamika's Blog on Dating and Relationships". I chose this blog because as a person with a serious relationship it caught my eye because it gives articles that help couples communicate and build a stronger relationship. The blog has many different articles from relationship advice to articles on being single. The blog wasn't very appealing or exciting the text was just plain and there was no background color, but other than that it was a good/informative blog. I rated this blog a 27/30.

One blog I found was The Friendship Blog, I rated this blog a 27.5/30 because the content was very clear and to the point, also it contained information that showed how to keep your friendship strong and what makes a great friendship. The blog contained videos on the topics of each blog post, which help with people who have a difficult time paying attention to what people write. I liked best that the site is down to earth and life like and that it contained information for all ages.

Twitter-Mania

Twitter was created by a 10 person start up in San Francisco, called Obvious, which is a mixture of messaging, social networking, microblogging for the idea that people should enjoy an "always on" virtual omnipresence. Twitter's rapid growth made it the object of intense interest and a fair amount of ridicule. But it's use in Iran in the wake of the disputed presidential election of June 2009 to organize protests and disseminate information in the face of a news media crackdown brought it new respect. The article deals with the way media affects our lives by controlling what we say and how many characters we say it in. Twitter is a form of mircoblogging made popular by celebrities, politicians and businesses. People use Twitter to get news out, for example "...people in Iran and Moldova created their own searchable tags on Twitter to organize protests against their governments and share information with each other and the world. Moldovans used the network to rally more than 10,000 young people against their country's Communist leadership." Also in the article it said that Twitter was court ordered, petitioners said that the "Internet protocol addresses" should be private information and the information needed was too broad. Twitter is out there for news and entertainment, it has become a part of a lot of people's daily habits. Twitter can be accessed by computer, cellular phone or any devices with Internet. It affects some peoples self esteem because someone could tweet a nasty tweet about that person and not mention any names. Twitter is like a way to say what you want without the drama of putting it on Facebook and without the drama of saying it to a persons face. In my opinion Twitter is entertaining, but people need to realize that it hasn't always been around and they lived without it, society would be "healthier" if it didn't play such a huge part in peoples' everyday lives.

Media Literacy at a Glance*

Yesterday in class we viewed two clips on Media Literacy, after seeing these videos I realized that media is a big influence in our world today. One thing I learned that media is very powerful but not always in good ways, sometimes media is very dangerous. Media today is very influentual and everyone believes everything that is being said whether on tv, on websites, in magazines and newspapers. Some things printed or commercialized in media turn out to false and give people bad rep. The second thing I learned was that the goal of most cooperations, including those who own media, is to make media above anything else. Cooperations use media to get their product advertised so more people will be interested in purchasing it and make it look more popular if it's advertised well and often. Company's make want their products to sell so they try to get it out there with the use of media. Also I learned that there are a lot of "Junk Values" which are products that we don't need but they are shown in the media that we need them and that they make us feel good and our life won't be the same if we purchase one. Company's make crap products but they are shown in the media as great products that will make your life 10x better. The final thing I learned was no media is objective there is always one group or someone who gets left out, this shows true because there are advertisements in newspapers and on television that are only directed to a specific group of people.
